After a successful momentum in the metro rail project, Kochi Corporation is now seeking the help of Railways to bring to life a suburban railway system linking the Cochin Metropolis with Trissur, Kottayam and Mattancherry. This is aimed at helping the daily commuters who come to Kochi for work and business.
The Kochi Corporation under our mayor Mercy Williams also has highlighted the need to connect Nedumbasserry which has the Cochin International Airport with the main city.
It will reduce the rush in trains which ply these routes in the morning and evening like the Cochin-Trivandrum or Cochin-Cannanore Intercity. The other reason being, people will be more interested in taking a train in the morning than rely on long distance busses which ply these routes.
Also the project planned has high priority on the extension of the South Over Bridge and North Over Bridge from the current 2 lanes to 4 lanes.
I hate this idea due to the personal reason that my office will have to be demolished for this to happen 🙁 But hey, its for the city. Guess it has to happen.
Also, as our writer vasanfca highlighted sometime back about the tale of three bridges, they have put forward demands to complete the bridges in Pullepady and Edapally as soon as possible to reduce the traffic snarls in the Cochin city. Guess the ball is on the Railways to complete it asap. Hopefully they will help us soon!
P.S: Has anyone noticed a reduction in traffic jams lately in the south over bridge area with the new traffic restrictions in place?
