Queens baton relay to reach Cochin on 29th

Queens’s baton relay as part of Common wealth games will reach Cochin on august 29th this month. The district administration has made wide arrangements to receive the XIX CWG  Queen’s Baton Relay. An Exhibition train in promotion of the games will reach the city on august 28th.  Around 5000 School students, Scouts and Guides, NCC cadets and school bands will accompany the relay scheduled to begin Maharaja’s College Stadium at 9.45 AM. Cultural programmes will mark the culmination of the event at the Regional Sports Centre, Kadavanthra, at 6 PM.

Kochi is the 65th centre among the 100 centres in India that will be covered by the relay.

In all, 81 dignitaries, including 41 famous sportspersons along with ministers and officials, will participate in the various stages of the torch relay, which is touring different landmarks in the city.

It will be the longest torch relay in the Commonwealth Games’ history. The CWG baton  started its journey from Buckingham Palace, London, on October 29, 2009.
